    Mining Engineer

    JOB OBJECTIVE
    To lead, plan and manage the daily mines production of the company mines and the crusher efficiently, ensuring optimum utilization of resources in order to ensure achievement of production targets and, quality and HSE standards.
    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
    Strategy Contribution and Implementation
     Contribute to the mines development and ensure effective cascading of departmental strategy into the assigned production section’s policies and procedures in line with the overall business objectives of the company.
    People Management
     Manage the effective achievement of objectives through setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff, provision of formal and informal feedback and appraisal in order to maximize subordinate and the overall performance.
     Assist in the training of production personnel in accordance with the training programs produced by the HR department in order to achieve advances skill levels within the section
    Organization Structure
     Support the Production Manager in defining an optimum departmental structure so that resources are optimally utilized and communication can take place in an efficient manner.
    Budgets and Plans
     Prepare the budget for the Mines section and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, and areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, rectified promptly and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.
    Planning of Operations
     Develop and seek approval for the annual and monthly mines development schedule i.e. Blasting days ensuring alignment to the annual production plan and control the implementation of schedule as per set timelines, HSE and quality standards.
     Prepare detailed instructions for necessary work to be carried out by subordinates to ensure timely completion of tasks as per defined operating procedures
     On receipt of the overall Production Plan from Planning, translate it into specific shift operating plans and follow up on actual production achieved in order to ensure production plans are met.
     Co-ordinate with all internal stakeholders on production planning issues in order to ensure that realistic production plans are generated that take proper account of ongoing plant/ and allow for minimum cost, optimum output production planning.
     Together with Production Manager and Maintenance department, lead the effective planning and coordination of critical/long term/ short term maintenance activity for the section’s plant equipment and processes in order to minimize down time and maximize plant availability.
    Production Management
     Lead and control the effective operations of the mines and crushing operations in accord with defined production targets, quality and HSE standards while ensuring close coordination with shift staff to achieve seamless operations.
     Lead the conducting of safety tool box talks and provision of work instructions to Shift In-Charges and follow-up the same for the smooth operation of the plant.
     Lead/participate in the identification of problem areas, or operating areas requiring change or alteration of a technical nature to meet varying production plans.
     Lead the effective collaboration with all other concerned personnel and external parties for the preparation of blasting sites for inspection, and safety in order to ensure optimum safe operations in accord with local laws and regulations.
     Identify, design and propose technical improvements and/or developments based on current and future plant/process requirements, implementing approved plans as appropriate in order to support the continual technical improvement of production plant and processes.
     Manage projects and support / contribute to larger projects from conception through to implementation in order to ensure that projects are delivered to time, cost and quality standards.
     Use specialist engineering skills and techniques to evaluate and solve technical plant and process problems in order to support the achievement of uninterrupted production of work in progress/finished goods.
     Ensure effective use of heavy mobile equipment and drivers and liaise with the automobile section for any maintenance to assure optimum functionality.
    Corrective Maintenance/Emergency Management
     Together with the Senior Management, ensure the provision of a timely response to all relevant emergencies and prompt corrective action is taken whilst effectively coordinating with Maintenance department to ensure minimum impact to resources.
     Discuss and report any accidents at production site to Management to facilitate decision making and as per adherence to procedural/legislative standards.
    Continuous Improvement
     Provide inputs and suggestions for the continuous improvement of the company’s production operations practices, systems, and processes taking into account ‘global best practices’, international standards to improve efficiency & cost effectiveness and productivity standards.
     Identify and develop improvements to operating standards, policies and procedures in order to support continuous improvements in operating performance.
     Make modifications / adaptations to plant/process in order to achieve optimum solutions to technical problems and support the achievement of ongoing improvements in productivity.
     Ensure that all technical documentation – drawings, , etc. – is maintained and filed appropriately in order to ensure ease of access to up to date technical data at all times
     Analyze and evaluate improvements and/or counter measures following HSE accident/incident occurrence, ensuring the implementation of appropriate measures to ensure incidents do not reoccur
    Material Management : Raw material
     Identify and recommend plant/equipment purchasing requirements, perform technical evaluation of equipment and suppliers and ensure effective commissioning and follow up where appropriate.
     Monitor stock and usage levels of spares, consumables and materials to ensure that items are available to meet requirements and that usage is consistent with budgeted assumptions and approve material purchase orders within permitted financial limits ensuring adherence to the company procedures
    Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
     Provide inputs to enhance process departmental policy and procedures and develop/enhance procedures related to respective section and implement procedures and controls covering all areas of section activity for the assigned production area to ensure adherence and effective implementation
    Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment
     Ensure compliance to all relevant quality, health, safety and environmental management procedures and controls to guarantee employee safety, compliance, delivery of high quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.
    Statements and Reports
     Supervise the preparation of timely and accurate departmental statements and reports to meet the company’s and department requirements, policies and standards.
     Perform data analysis and prepare management reports on a range of production performance and technical areas/issues in order to ensure that management have the necessary information to support decision making
